This year's JK kicked off today with a lightning fast Sprint at MOD Stafford

Day 1: Friday 30th March – Sprint – MoD Stafford
Hosted by Walton Chasers Orienteering Club (WCH) and Royal Signals Orienteering Club (RSOC).

This year's JK kicked off today with a lightning fast Sprint around MOD Stafford.

The barracks provided a flat area with many roads, short grass, reasonably spaced buildings, the occasional earth mound and few uncrossable features. This led to reasonably straightforward routechoices and terrain that suited rapid runners. Here the technical challenge was to keep ahead of yourself and not to keep running hard when you didn't have a plan! The trickiest part of the area was in the north which had many similar looking buildings which could be confusing.

In the Senior Elite classes Megan Carter-Davies from Mid Wales Orienteering Club / Bristol University Orienteering Club took the win with Alice Leake Aire/Leeds, and Tessa Strain of Edinburgh University Orienteering Club completing the podium.

In the junior classes there were wins for Anna Todd, Robbie Lightfoot, Daisy Rennie, Jake O'Donnell, Imogen Pieters, Ewan Musgrave, Megan Keith, Matthew Gooch, Grace Molloy, Alastair Thomas, Fiona Bunn and Aidan Rigby.

At the opposite end of the age spectrum three competitors completed the over 85s course: Donald Moir, Andrew Beldowski and Eileen Bedwell. They along with all other prize winners from the Sprint will receive their prizes after the race tomorrow.

The GB squad will be have a tent tomorrow (Saturday 31 March) and Sunday (1 April), come along and find out about their plans for the coming year or pick their brains on competing, training or anything else.
