First Aid Requirements for Orienteering Coaches

Please note:
When booking on your course please ensure that you complete all sections of the application form relevant to your course.  Course organisers aim to send final details out to all candidates 2 weeks prior to the start date of the course.

British Orienteering and other course organisers reserve the right to cancel a course with 3 weeks notice given to the candidates (any payment made will be returned in full) – this may occur if for example the candidate numbers are such that the course is not financially viable, hopefully candidates would then be able to join the next available course.

Please be aware that If a course does not have 'BRITISH ORIENTEERING' in it's title, the participants should check they are covered by the course provider’s insurance.

First Aid Requirements for Orienteering Coaches

Level 1 Coaches – are not compelled to hold a first aid certificate, although to do so would clearly be a good thing.

Level 2 Coaches – in order to pass your assessment and in order to remain qualified must you must possess a current first aid certificate resulting from at least 4 hours of training with an organization which is a Health and Safety Executive approved course provider. The award of the certificate must involve an element of assessment and the training must cover basic life support and emergency aid.

Coaches at Level 3 and Above – in order to pass your assessment and in order to remain qualified you must possess a current first aid certificate resulting from at least 14 hours of training with an organization which is a Health and Safety Executive approved course provider. The award of the certificate must involve an element of assessment and the training must cover more than basic life support and emergency aid.

The following courses/certificates are all acceptable as a First Aid qualification for British Orienteering Coaching Award Scheme. It is recommended that all Coaches at renewal attend the course devised by the British Orienteering in consultation with the British Red Cross Society (BRCS).
