Tutors & Assessors
Quality assurance is vital to achieving a credible and high quality Coach Education Programme that meets the needs of orienteering and coaches across the Home Countries. One of the key quality assurance investments that British Orienteering will make over the next few years is in the recruitment and training of the tutors and assessors who will deliver and assess the new UKCC qualifications when they go live in 2008.
To maintain our high standards of course delivery, only accredited British Orienteering tutors will be able to deliver courses. Accredited Prior Learning will be recognised by British Orienteering however all tutors and assessors will need to be trained and qualified to nationally recognised standards.

Coach Education Tutors
Apply to become a Tutor in the Coach Education Programme
In the last 3 years (2005/07) we have used 95 tutors and 72 assessors to deliver British Orienteering Coach Education courses around the UK. As we develop our programme of courses, our need for trained tutors will increase. Our aim is to have 45-50 trained tutors by the end of 2008. We particularly welcome applications to become tutors or assessors from women and minority groups who are currently under-represented in orienteering.
If you would like to apply to become a tutor or an assessor, please email the Coaching Manager Vicky Thornton with an up to date CV and a covering letter justifying your reasons for wanting to become a coach tutor or assessor. You may be required to attend a short interview. For further information on becoming a tutor or assessor please read the selection criteria below.
Selection Criteria for British Orienteering Coach Education Tutors
The application criteria to become a British Orienteering Coach
Education Tutor includes:

An academic qualification at A level or above, in a relevant discipline, e.g. sports science, physical education, or sports coaching

Experience of tutoring and/or facilitation/lecturing

A British Orienteering Level 2 or 3 Coaching qualification
-
Actively coaching, with a demonstration of twenty four months experience of active coaching
-
A positive attitude towards the development of coaching and support the aims and objectives of the British Orienteering Coach Education Programme
While these criteria serve as a useful guide, we will consider an application from anyone who feels they are suitably qualified.
Expected Level of Involvement of Coach Education Tutors
We expect our Coach Educators to:

Deliver the Coach Education programme on courses to a high standard of professionalism

Deliver courses, for up to 8 days per year

Represent British Orienteering, in a positive and professional manner at all times

Satisfy the requirements of the course candidates

Set aside an appropriate amount of time before the course to prepare material and plan any activities

Answer all questions on courses satisfactorily, either drawing upon knowledge, or by referring candidates to other sources of information

Be available for additional continuous professional development training days up to 4 per year

Coach Education Assessors
Selection Criteria for British Orienteering Coach Education Assessors
The application criteria to become a British Orienteering Coach Education Assessor includes:

An assessing qualification (IAPS/D32/D33/A1) or be prepared to work towards a qualification

Experience of assessing

A British Orienteering Level 2 or 3 Coaching qualification

Actively coaching, with a demonstration of twenty four months experience of active coaching or have been an active coach or tutor within the last 5 years

A positive attitude towards the development of coaching and support the aims and objectives of the British Orienteering Coach Education Programme
While these criteria serve as a useful guide, we will consider an application from anyone who feels they are suitably qualified.
Expected Level of Involvement of Coach Education Assessors
We expect our Coach Educators Assessors to:

Deliver assessments to candidate coaches to a high standard of professionalism

Deliver assessments, for up to 8 days per year

Represent British Orienteering, in a positive and professional manner at all times

Set aside an appropriate amount of time before the assessment observation to plan the assessment

Answer all questions on assessments appropriately from the candidates, interval verifiers or external verifiers

Be available for additional continuous professional development training days up to 4 per year
