Events and Competitions Working Groups
Since its inaugural meeting in April, the Events and Competitions Committee has been working on Terms of Reference for the Groups that it would like to put in place to help deliver the vision set out in the Whole Sport Plan and the Competitions Review. Now that these Terms of Reference have been approved by the Board, we are seeking orienteers who can make a contribution to that delivery. The Committee has identified three key areas on which it believes this work needs to be focused, and wants to develop groups to work in these specific areas, as follows: Event Officials (including the support training and development of the sport’s volunteers, its organisers, mappers, planners and controllers, and for the appointment of key volunteers to our major events). Programme and Publicity (including the development, publicising and sponsorship of British Orienteering’s major events and competitions – including the JK, British Championships and the UK Orienteering League and for ensuring that this is supported by the scheduling of level A and B events within the fixture list). Event Systems (including the co-ordination and development of appropriate systems and technology to support our orienteering events – including mapping, map printing, timing systems, electronic punching, competitor tracking, seeding and selection). Full details of the groups Terms of Reference and a diagram that explains the Committee and group structure can be found below: Event Officials Group Terms of Reference Event Systems Group Terms of Reference Event Programme Publicity Group Terms of Reference Formation of Supporting Workgroups Appointments Process for Supporting Workgroups These are challenging briefs, but ones that we think that the sport needs to support its development, so we ask all members to give serious thought to how they can contribute to this work, and to put themselves forward for membership (or to chair) one of these groups. There will be other groups needed to support some of this work (e.g. Scheduling Group, Map Advisory Group, Technology Advisory Group). We hope to be able to appoint chairs and members for all the groups before the end of the summer, so that their work can begin in earnest in the autumn.
