Portugal Training Camp 2013

17 squad athletes  attended a 5 day training camp in Portugal last week. 14 of the athletes went out early and competed in the Portugal O Meet (POM) where there were some strong performances.  In the well attended WRE (middle distance) our top results were Cat Taylor 10th (winner Simone Niggli) and Hector Haines 17th (winner Thierry Georgiou) with other notable performances from Florence Haines and Ralph Street.  The camp itself was based on the coast where we had three days of hard training and performance analysis and two days of competition (MOC) including a second WRE (Classic distance).  Cat Taylor posted another strong result coming 5th (winner Simone Niggli) and Graham Gristwood ran well to come 10th (winner Olav Lundanes).  Doug Tullie and Charlotte Watson also had good performances to score valuable World Ranking Points. This was perfect timing for a training camp and there was a very positive, focused and optimistic atmosphere. Our athletes have set themselves some challenging goals for this season and are working hard to achieve them. Many thanks to all the athletes and staff involved for making this such a productive camp in particular to Neal Anderson (Sports Psychologist) who worked on a 1:1 basis with the athletes and Dave Rollins (Team Manager/Coach) and Marcus Pinker (Coach).  Item posted by Liz Campbell
