Course description: | The area is a mix of complex urban footpaths, residential streets, and playing fields. One unusual feature of the local estates is that most houses face open land, their road access being through their back gardens. While there are numerous pathways in the open land between the houses, some of the roads are lengthy cul-de-sacs with no ways out. The courses have been constructed to avoid crossing any of the major roads except by the many underpasses. All courses cross a road with potentially fast-moving traffic twice. This is marked as out of bounds and the available subways should be used. Road shoes, preferably with good grips, running shorts and vests should be suitable, provided it is not raining. Shoes with spikes should not be worn for this event. Last summer the local council planted over 300 new trees and, commendably, looked after them well during the drought. Nearly all have survived, but you may spot places either where a tree has died and been removed, or where an additional tree has been planted after the map survey. A black cross symbol is used to indicate playground equipment, while a small black circle with a dot in the middle indicates an ornamental feature. |
