Rankings and Results Feedback – FAQ 22nd January 2010

Firstly, many thanks for the feedback we have received regarding the new Results and Ranking System.

Results

We have sourced and loaded the results for the majority of the Regional and National events that were part of the Ranking Scheme in 2009. We are aware of a couple of missing/incorrect files and we are currently trying to rectify these errors. There may also be an issue that participants aged 16 and under have been removed from some of the results, this is a consequence of using results files uploaded into the old ranking system. If you have a copy of the results for a missing/incorrect set of results we would be grateful if you could get in touch.

As new sets of results have been provided, we have been uploading them into the system, hence the change in the rankings since it’s launch. Moving forward the Ranking list will only be updated each Thursday.

Registered Club Results Secretaries will begin to receive training next week on how to upload results. We have delayed activating Club Results Secretaries ability to upload results so that we are able to provide maximum support. If your Club Chair/Secretary has not already registered a Club Results Secretary, please contact the National Office.

Ranking Scheme

A lot of the feedback we have received has been related to the algorithm and specific scores/results. We will need more time to investigate these queries and we shall provide an update next week.

There has also been some feedback on the aesthetics of the pages and these suggestions will also be reviewed next week.

FAQs

Are Juniors part of the Ranking Scheme?
The decision was taken that the Ranking Scheme would initially include those aged 18 and above in the year the competition took place. This decision is to be reviewed in conjunction with other British Orienteering Committees and Groups. At present only competitors born in 1992 or earlier will be shown in the Ranking List. Therefore the function to filter by those aged 18 will not be fully populated until those born in 1992 have competed in 6 or more ranking events in 2010.

What Events are included in the ranking scheme?

The results from all National (Level 1) Events and all Regional (Level 2) Events that are not Night events, Relay, Score and other mass start events will be included in the Single Scale Ranking Scheme. The scheme will include relevant Urban Events. International Events are excluded from the scheme.

Personal Scores for past 12 months?

On the old system it was possible to obtain a list of all the ranking scores a person had during the previous 12 month period; this facility is not currently available although is on the list of possible inclusions for a future development phase.
Similarly the facility to link from a score to the relevant set of event results is also being considered for future development.

Long and Short Course

The Single Scale Ranking Scheme compares participants on any course therefore there is no need to rank the long and short courses separately.
