World Mountain Bike Orienteering - JWOC Middle and WOC Long Qualification

The JWOC long prologue race today was cancelled so that the Middle distance final could be re-run after yesterdays unfortunate voiding. The race area in the hills surrounding Chaves was a mix of forest and open hillsides, the courses characterised by huge climbs.

Helen had a clean ride and rode as hard as possible but the Eastern European riders had the edge in such a hilly environment, finishing in 8th missing the podium by just 40 seconds. Chris finished 12 mins down on the leaders after a good ride in 33rd position.

The elites today had prologue and qualifiers for the long race final on Friday. In the women's race today it was only necessary to finish in order to qualify, but the results will be used to seed the start list. Beth, Lucy and Emily successfully completed their courses and are now looking forward to a rest day before the final.

In the larger men's field only the top 20 of each of the three qualifications races go through to the final. Despite giving it their all and having mainly clean rides unfortunately Mark, Ben and Andy Conn failed to make the cut but a strong ride from Andrew Windrum in 17thtakes him through.

Team GB will be using the rest day on Thursday relax and recuperate before the Long final on Friday and Relays on Saturday.
