4 Tier Event Structure

The next steps in the implementation of the 4 Tier Event structure were discussed at the recent Board meeting. The Board recognised that there is considerable work to be completed to improve clarity surrounding the 4 levels and that it is likely to be late in the autumn before the event registration system can be changed to enable fixture secretaries to register events using the 4 tier system.

Fixtures Secretaries are asked to be patient whilst this work is ongoing and to continue to register events for 2011 using the current registration system that has 3 levels.

Staff were tasked to progress work on a system of quality standards that will enable clubs and associations to submit those events they wish to stage at the higher levels for assessment. Board members believe that this work to define more tightly the quality of an event reflects the essence behind the 4 Tier Proposal and will be a significant step forward in assuring the quality of events. It was recognised that this is a far more challenging solution to define the levels than to use the more obvious but administratively based approach of ‘who has authority to schedule an event’. It was noted that the Event Quality Standards should encompass the different disciplines such as urban/city orienteering, middle distance and sprint. It is hoped that the quality standards approach will reflect both the rationale behind the 4 Tier Event Structure proposal and provide participants with an orienteering solution rather than an administrative solution.
