World Orienteering Championships 2017

The countdown is now on with just days to go before the 2017 World Orienteering Championships starts in Estonia on Friday with the Sprint Qualification.

50 nations from all over the world are set to participate in Nokian Tyres World Orienteering Championships in Tartu, Estonia.  All continents are represented and there are some exciting orienteering countries in the list: Brazil and Chile from South America, Egypt from Africa, Hong Kong and China from Asia and Moldova and Serbia from Europe.

Our Great Britain elite athletes are busy getting ready to travel to the World Orienteering Championships! 

We wish them all the very best with their final preparations.

The World Orienteering Championships starts with the first race of the Sprint Qualification at 13:00 – 15:00 this Friday (30 June) in Estonia.

The Sprint Qualification and Final will be held in the centre of the University town Tartu. The terrain is a mix of old town and modern parts of the town with mostly paved ground and a hilly park with soft ground and numerous paths.

Those athletes successfully qualifying in the Sprint Qualification will go on to compete in the Sprint Final which will take place on Saturday 1 July 2017 in the University Town Tartu.

The Women’s Sprint Final is scheduled to take place from 14:30 – 15:45

The Men’s Sprint Final is scheduled to take place from 15:45 – 17:00.

Get set for a week full of world class orienteering!

The official Opening Ceremony for the World Championships is being held in the Tartu Town Hall Square from 18:30 – 19:15 after the Sprint Qualification races have taken place.

The World Orienteering Championships week starts on June 30, 2017, with the Sprint Qualification and concludes on July 7 with the Relay. The week includes five medal races: Sprint, Sprint Relay, Long Distance, Middle Distance and the traditional Relay.
