Third World Gold Medal for Emily Benham!

In a hard fought Mass Start race at the Mountain Bike Orienteering World Championships in Vilnius, Lithuania Emily Benham won a hard fought Gold medal.

After 5 map exchanges and 41 controls, it was down to the very last control when a small mistake by Olga Shipilova-Granodova of Russia allowed Emily to ride to the Gold in a tough uphill finish.  Over the last 30 minutes of a tough course, Emily and Olga exchanged the lead several times much to the excitement of the crowd watching the GPS tracking on the big screens in the arena.

Seven seconds covered the first seven places in the men's race won by Lucy Dallavalle of Italy.  This Gold is Emily's third World Championship and adds to her bronze from the Middle yesterday and extends her World Cup Lead.  With the Long on Friday and the Sprint race in the historic centre of Vilnius on Saturday, there is more to come from Benham.

Congratulations Emily!  British Orienteering wishes you all the very best with the remaining races scheduled to take place later this week.
