British Orienteering 2017 Volunteer, Club and Mapping Awards - open now!

2017 Award Categories are now open for entries!

There has been so much activity goes on across the UK by so many volunteers contributing countless hours to developing the sport of orienteering. It is only right that those volunteers and clubs who make orienteering happen across the country week on week receive national recognition for all their hard work, dedication and commitment. 

HERE'S A FULL SNAPSHOT OF LAST YEAR’S WINNERS! 

Dom Dakin - Young Volunteer of the Year
Cambridge University Orienteering Club of the Year

YOUNG VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD 2016

For dedication and commitment to volunteering in orienteering.

Dom Dakin of South Yorkshire Orienteers received the Young Volunteer of the Year award.

 

UNIVERSITY CLUB OF THE YEAR 2016

For outstanding contribution to the provision and development of orienteering.

Winner of the University Club of the Year was awarded to Cambridge University Orienteering Club.

The Peter Palmer Coach of the Year - Liz Yeadon (Sarum)
The Club of the Year - Solway Orienteering Club

THE SILVA AWARD 2016

For demonstrating long standing commitment to the promotion and organisation of all aspects pf the sport.

Anthony McGonigle of North West Orienteering Club received The Silva Award.

 

THE PETER PALMER COACH OF THE YEAR 2016

For commitment to coaching orienteering.

The Peter Palmer Coach of the Year was awarded to Liz Yeadon of Sarum Orienteering Club.

 

THE CLUB OF THE YEAR 2016

For outstanding contribution to the provision and development of orienteering.

The winner of The Club of The Year was awarded to Solway Orienteering Club.

Winner of The Walsh Trophy and The SILVA Trophy - Dave Peel, Peel Land Surveys
The Chris Bonington Trophy winner - Chris Johnson of BOK

THE SILVA TROPHY 2016

Awarded for the best map produced by professional mappers.

Dave Peel at Peel Land Surveys was awarded The SILVA Trophy for “Pencuick Ladywood”.

 

THE WALSH TROPHY 2016

Awarded for the best urban or sprint map to ISSOM standards.

Dave Peel at Peel Land Surveys was awarded both The Walsh Trophy for “Pencuick Ladywood”.

 

THE CHICHESTER TROPHY 2016

This award is presented for the best map produced by an amateur mapper.

Ben Mitchell was awarded The Chichester Trophy for “Sugar Loaf”.

 

THE BONINGTON TROPHY 2016

Awarded annually for the best contribution to mapping.

The winner of The Chris Bonington Trophy was Chris Johnson of Bristol Orienteering Klub.

British Orienteering is now once again asking people to nominate inspiring individuals, clubs and mappers for their annual 2017 Volunteer, Club and Mapping Awards.

British Orienteering Mapping Awards 2017

The following awards are for maps first used in competition during 2017. To be eligible, maps should be of new areas or significant extensions/major revisions to existing maps. Submissions should state briefly the mapper involvement.

The Chichester Trophy
Presented for the best map by an amateur mapper.

Send electronic copies, preferably as OCAD or pdf formatted files together with a completed copy of this nomination form.

The Silva Trophy
Presented for the best map produced by professional mappers.

Send electronic copies, preferably as OCAD or pdf formatted files together with a completed copy of this nomination form.

Walsh Trophy
Presented for the best urban or sprint map.

Send electronic copies, preferably as OCAD or pdf formatted files together with a completed copy of this nomination form.

The map awards are to be decided on submissions provided by clubs and mappers. The scoring is based on specification, cartography and presentation.

Entries must be submitted before Monday 19th February 2018.

The Bonington Trophy

This trophy was donated to British Orienteering by its honorary President, Sir Chris Bonington, the world-famous mountaineer. The trophy consists of a piece of rock collected from the summit of Mount Everest on Chris' 1985 expedition, mounted on a wooden plinth. It is awarded annually for the 'best contribution to mapping' which can cover a whole range of activities related to mapping.
