Four events over the weekend of Friday 19 January – Sunday 21 January 2018.

This year's 10th Anniversary of the Edinburgh University Orienteering Club Big Weekend 2018 includes:

Friday 19 January: EUOC Big Weekend's Friday - FIGHT WITH THE NIGHT

An exciting night sprint race held around King’s Buildings Campus that is the 6th instalment of the infamous EUOC night series – 'Fight With The Night'.

Friday 19 January: EUOC Big Weekend's Friday - INDOOR EVENT

This year there will also be an indoor race in the JCMB building on the campus. This is definitely something to have a go at!

UKOL 1: Saturday 20 January: THE CITY RACE, EDINBURGH (Urban)

The city race will be run around the old streets of Edinburgh, providing intricate detail and superb route choice. As well as high-quality orienteering, the views and sights are fantastic with lots of opportunities to run around the Royal Mile and to see Edinburgh Castle.

UKOL 2: Sunday 21 January: HOLYROOD PARK, EDINBURGH (Long distance)

A traditional classic race on Arthur’s Seat and Holyrood Park. A wide range of courses will be on offer, catering from new orienteers to hardened veterans of the sport. The area has a wide variety of terrains from the technical contour and rock features of Winnie Hill to tougher, more physical terrain on the seat itself.

Matthew Fellbaum from Edinburgh University Orienteering Club who are hosting the 10th anniversary of the Edinburgh Big Weekend, says: “We are looking forward to welcoming you all to Edinburgh this weekend. This year we are holding our first ever indoor race in the JCMB, one of the university buildings. The indoor race is probably the biggest ever to happen in the UK with around 300 entries, and our entries are the biggest in our history with over 700 people pre-entered over the whole weekend. Also on Friday evening, you'll get to run a fast and furious 'Fight with the Night' in the Kings Buildings campus. Then on Saturday we are going back to the stunning George Heriot's School as the assembly and finish location for the city race, and on Sunday expect some top-notch courses around Holyrood Park. These 2 races are the first of the UK Orienteering League for 2018, so will be a perfect opportunity to get some good scores early on in the season! We will also have a traditional Scottish Ceilidh on Saturday night, which will be a great way to meet up and socialise after the racing.”

British Orienteering would like to thank Edinburgh University Orienteering Club for hosting the first two events of the 2018 UK Orienteering League this weekend and wish them all the best in their final preparations. British Orienteering would also like to take this opportunity to wish all members a great weekend of competitive orienteering.
