The Lakes 5 Days - Day 1

The Lakes 5 Days 2018 kicks off today with Day 1 - and Long distance race in Silver How, Grasmere.

Organising Club:  Deeside Orienteering Club

Officials:
Planner: Pete Ownes
Organiser: Clare Crocker
Controller:  Michael Pearson (WCOC)

Day 1 - Silver How, Grasmere

What can competitors expect?
Silver How, is a broad lumpy ridge at 400m with a wealth of rock and contour detail. The terrain is very runnable, patches of bracken, shown as green hatching on the map, are a severe impediment to progress and are best avoided. The longer courses visit Blea Rigg, which is higher (up to 530m) and more rugged. Paths are few and far between so both the white and yellow courses follow taped routes at times. These are marked by canes with red and white tape streamers. Part of the yellow course follows a stream.  More information about Day 1 here

Lakes 5 Day 1 - Long distance race is part of the UK Orienteering League.

Tomorrow (Monday 30 July) Day 2 will head to Angle Tarn Pikes in Patterdale.
