Entries open for Community Sport and Recreation Awards

Entries are now open for the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s Community Sport and Recreation Awards. They are free and easy to enter and have been championing grassroots work on a national scale for over twenty years.

To enter just tell them about your projects and initiatives that are working to change lives and improve communities. They want to know about projects that work with all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Not sure? Check out a few examples of some of the great work taking place in local communities.

Find out more about the awards and which categories you can enter by visiting www.sportandrecreation.org.uk/pages/awards. The closing date for entries is Sunday 18 November.

Aquila Burgess, Project Officer at the Alliance explains why you should enter this year’s Community Sport and Recreation Awards, with cash prizes and national recognition up for grabs.

"Our annual Community Sport and Recreation Awards programme is open and we’re encouraging you to enter. This year’s categories are;

  • Community Engagement;
  • Creative Partnerships;
  • Mental Health;
  • Volunteering;
  • Youth Development.

The awards have been celebrating grassroots sport and recreation for over twenty years, and champion grassroots work on a national scale, using examples of best practice to drive positive change.

There are around 150,000 grassroots sports clubs across the country, all helping our nation to keep active, but they also help people to develop important life skills such as leadership and teamwork. The awards are the perfect opportunity for you to celebrate your key achievements and successes over the last year.

The awards are free and easy to enter and we’re keen to hear about your projects and initiatives that work with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Here are some examples of what previous winners have done with their prize money:

  • Purchase new kit and equipment;
  • Provide coaching qualifications to develop their volunteers;
  • Keep facilities open for longer;
  • Support individuals to take up playing sport;
  • Host a community day to bring local people closer together.

Struggling for inspiration and need help? Why not check out our top tips to help you complete your entry.

If shortlisted for an award, you will be invited to an awards lunch in March 2019, where our President HRH, The Earl of Wessex will present each award winner with their trophy and prize."

The deadline for entries is midnight on Sunday 18 November. For more details on the process, the criteria and how to enter, visit our website or email awards@sportandrecreation.org.uk.
