National Coaching Conference welcomed 75 coaches!

"Really informative."
"Thoroughly enjoyable."
"Lots I can use in my coaching."

These were just some of the positive comments from those who attended the recent national Coaching Conference held at The University of Nottingham.

Held over two days on a fresh January weekend, 75 coaches from across the country listened to various presenters and took part in practical sessions to help inspire and improve as coaches.

Opening the weekend was keynote speaker Emil Wingstedt. Emil who is the current Halden SK coach and has worked with the GB squad on a number of occasions provided valuable insight into his experiences as a coach, the challenges he’s faced and his thoughts on sprint orienteering.

Over the course of the conference, coaches received advice and discussions on areas including sprint orienteering, developing young orienteers into athletes, planning an orienteer’s season to achieve success alongside a Remote Terrain Safety and Strength and Conditioning workshops.

Organising the conference and pulling everything together, Hilary Palmer (NOC) commented:  “I was pleased with the responses to the programme and the numbers of coaches who came from all over the UK and elsewhere. There was a really enthusiastic atmosphere and I’m sure everyone went home enthused by what they’d heard.”

This year also saw the conference filmed which will see highlights of most of the sessions and a full replay of the keynote speaker presentation available to view in the near future on British Orienteering’s YouTube channel.
