Orienteering this week in Northern Ireland

On Saturday at the weekend (9 February) three orienteering clubs in Northern Ireland; North West Orienteering Club, Fermanagh Orienteers and Lagan Valley Orienteers together with two hubs; Orchard County Orienteers and Tollymore Orienteers were each presented with defibrillators through the ‘Defibrillators for Sport’ Initiative funded by Sport Northern Ireland.

Juls Hanvey, Active Clubs Coordinator (Northern Ireland), said: “It is fantastic for our hubs and clubs to now be in possession of these life-saving devices particularly given that events often take place in rural settings. Such a great initiative from Sport Northern Ireland.”

On Monday evening ( 11 February), Cecil Armstrong Club Secretary at Lagan Valley Orienteers and Juls Hanvey, Active Clubs Coordinator attended Sport Northern Ireland’s #SPORTMAKERS Awards at the ‘Titanic Belfast’ to officially receive Lagan Valley Orienteers Clubmark Northern Ireland certificate.

Juls Hanvey, Active Clubs Coordinator (Northern Ireland), said: “This was a great event to honour the Sport Makers of NI, it was really special to see the Clubs being celebrated for their work on Clubmark alongside the Coaches, Volunteers and Officials of the year. Big shout out to Cecil for all his commitment to this – projects like this are exactly what being a ‘Sport Maker’ is all about – the people on the ground making it all happen for their club. The heart of the sport!”
