New record for orienteering on mainstream live television

The television broadcasts from the Nokian Tyres World Orienteering Championships in Norway August 12 – 17 will be broadcast live on more mainstream channels than ever before. ERR in Estonia, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden, TV2 in Denmark and YLE in Finland will each be broadcasting live on August 14, August 16 and August 17, from the Long Distance, Middle Distance and Relay competitions respectively. The competitions will also be broadcast this year at prime viewership times in the early evening in Europe.

"We have been consistently developing our TV productions from the World Orienteering Championships over several years and it is exciting to see a growing interest from mainstream broadcasters. We believe that productions from orienteering demonstrate how exciting our competitions can be and are seen as a very interesting TV product. We hope for a continued good response this summer", says Tom Hollowell, International Orienteering Federation CEO.

In addition to the live broadcasts, TV rights in the form of live-to-tape and highlights productions have been sold to mainstream broadcasters in Austria (ORF), Czech Republic (Ceská Televize) and Switzerland (SSR SRG). In the rest of the world, the live broadcast signal will be available for purchase via the IOFs own streaming service LIVE Orienteering.
