Ready, Steady …. GO!!

Several clubs kicked off World Orienteering Day in style, and one club was Guildford Orienteers (GO).  Guildford Orienteers is a small club with around 70 members, but it has a good core set of established members and an active junior section, so World Orienteering Day presented the perfect opportunity to celebrate our wonderful sport.

“The weather was great, the forest lovely and we all enjoyed ourselves” said Aya Luu from Guildford Orienteers“My two children love hanging out with the other juniors.   They were kindly shadowed by two of the older juniors and then we all enjoyed a picnic together in the forest!”

Several cubs and scouts groups came along as Wednesday was their activity evening.

“This is an excellent activity for the lads and helps them practice for their Duke of Edinburgh expedition” said Scout Leader Mark Silcock
“We come along to an evening orienteering event in May each year, so it is a good regular fixture in our summer activity calendar”.

The event attracted over 100 people and was a great start to the World Orienteering Week of celebrations!
