The 2019 Junior World Orienteering Championships are taking place in Silkeborg, Denmark over the next 10 days. The British team flew out to Aarhus on Thursday morning to take in a final couple of training runs ahead of the model events on Saturday, before the competition kicks off for real on Sunday with the Sprint.
The team features a mix of JWOC debutants and veterans with Fiona Bunn leading the pack at her fifth Junior World Championships. The other returners in the team are Grace Molloy, Alastair Thomas, Laura King, Niamh Hunter and Eddie Narbett.
The 6 debutants feature two final year M20's, in Freddie Carcas and Finlay Todd , and four others, who will be hoping that this is the first of a run of attempts at JWOC.
Men | Women |
---|---|
Freddie Carcas (LUOC/INT) Eddie Narbett (EUOC/BOK) Peter Molloy (FVO) Alastair Thomas (EUOC/WCOC) Finlay Todd (GUOC/INVOC) |

The sprint will take place in the suburbs of Aarhus, kicking off a good week of races for the GB team, with the organisers planning on including some uncrossable artificial barriers making it a potentially tricky sprint. The team have reported that the forests are really clean and runnable in the main, so we are looking forward to some fast forest racing.
