GB set to compete at the Orienteering World Cup 2021 Round 2 in Sweden this week (Thursday 12 - Sunday 15 August)

A 14-athlete strong team will be heading to, Idrefjäll, Sweden to compete in the second World Cup after an impressive start to the international season which returned this year.

The Individual Long distance race will be the first race to take place on the 12 August, held by the lake Burosjön, situated north of Idrefjäll.  The race will pass through challenging Swedish mountain terrain at an altitude of 630-880 m.a.s.l.  It will have a hilly topography with moderate to steeper slopes. The run ability and visibility are good to very good with very few roads and paths in the area. There are six men and six women set to start the individual race for Great Britain with the first women to go off at 9.30 am and the first man at 9.50 am, with 3-minute intervals between each competitor.

After a rest day (Friday 13 August) the Middle distance race will take place on Saturday 14 August at Gränjåsen, situated north-east of Idrefjäll, with most of the area inside a nature reserve.  It is mainly a sub-alpine forest with old-grown trees and very few ‘green’-areas.  It will be an individual start with each athlete starting with 2-minute intervals.

The final day of action on Sunday 15 August will be the Relay which will take place at Gränjåsvallen, situated north-east of Idrefjäll.

The Relay consists of two team competitions, Men’s Relay and Women’s Relay. Each relay has three legs. All teams start at the same time in a mass start and the courses are forked. Forked courses means that competitors that run the same leg may have different controls but after all three legs, all teams have run the same course in total.

The full team of athletes and their events are listed below and will be supported by Team Managers Jo Stevenson and Donald McCarthy.
