UK Orienteering League 2021 Update

Report by Martin Ward, UKOL Event Coordinator

As we reach the end of August, six of the 16 UKOL races for 2021 have now been held, and leaders are beginning to emerge in each of the age category classes. Just three people have a "perfect score" of 250 points, being 50 points for a win at each of five events. They are Kirsten Strain (W35), James Hammond (M16) and Carol McNeill (W75).

In the inter-club competition, Forth Valley (FVO) were leading South Yorkshire (SYO) after the UKOL races at the Scottish 6 Days events, but that position has reversed following the British Sprint Champs in Skelmersdale last weekend, with SYO now in the lead on 3300 points, followed by FVO on 3226 and Lakeland (LOC) 3rd place on 2563 just ahead of Derwent Valley (DVO) in 4th on 2527.

UKOL Races 7 and 8 take place in 18th/19th September at the Caddihoe Chase hosted by Wimbourne (WIM), and just two weeks later there are UKOL races 8 and 9 on 2nd/3rd October at the British Orienteering Championships weekend in Devon. This year it will be the best 8 scores to count from 16 races in the league, so by the end of the British Champs weekend, we may see some runners confirmed as UKOL champions for this year.
