UK Orienteering League - just over a week until the new league season begins

Report by Martin Ward member of South Yorkshire Orienteers and British Orienteering UK Orienteering League Coordinator

It's just over a week until the 2022 UK Orienteering League (UKOL) season begins, and a whopping six races will be held before the end of January!

First up it's the Edinburgh Univerity Big Weekend taking place on 22 and 23 January, consisting of the Edinburgh City Race on Saturday followed by a classic distance race on Arthur's Seat on Sunday.  Always a good weekend of racing, this is the first time it's been included in the UKOL season.  The city race is also the first UK Urban League race of the season, so there are lots of points up for grabs!

Just a week later there are two further competition weekends in the UKOL calendar.  In the South, there is the Berkshire Orienteers Concorde Chase weekend, consisting of an urban race in Bracknell on Saturday and a National Event in Hawley and Hornley on Sunday.  Meanwhile, on the same weekend in the Midlands, there is the Midland Championships weekend hosted by Derwent Valley Orienteers and Nottinghamshire Orienteering Club (Chatsworth on Saturday followed by the Midland Championships at Sherwood on Sunday).

Entries for all of these races are open now but don't delay, as the closing date for the Edinburgh University Orienteering Club (EUOC) Big Weekend is this Sunday - 16 January 2022.

Having launched the 2022 UKOL season British Orienteering wants to also congratulate all the individual winners of the 2021 season which only finished just before Christmas. At the end of last year, the UKOL club competition winners (Bristol Orienteering Klub) were announced.

1 BOK 4837 John Simmons (M70), Mark Saunders (M60), Chloe Potter (W21), Matthew Owen (M55), Amy Lee-Jones (W16), Carol Iddles (W65), Jackie Hallett (W60), Clive Hallett (M55), Tommi Grover (M45), Clare Fletcher (W75), Sara Currie (W40), Karen Crawford (W50), Alice Bedwell (W60), Scott Bailey (M45), Finlay Anderson (M16)
