Entries are open for The Lakes 5-Days taking place this August

Thinking of ideas of what to do this summer? 

Look no further, as the Lakes 5-Days is set to offer fine orienteering in good terrain throughout the Lake District this August.

This summer will see the 8th Lakes 5-Days event take place in the English Lake District, home to some of the country’s most beloved scenery and finest orienteering areas. The event will incorporate five individual national events between Sunday 7 August and Friday 12 August 2022.

Here is what is taking place and at where over the five days…

Day 1:

 Sunday 7 August
Swindale South, Near Shap.

Terrain details:  Open fell with many contours and rock detail. Runability is generally good but marshes can be slow, especially after prolonged wet weather.

Day 2: 

Monday 8 August
Threlkeld Knotts, Threlkeld

Terrain details:  Runnable open terrain on north-facing slopes entirely free of bracken and with great views of Blencathra across the valley.

Day 3: 

Tuesday 9 August
Graythwaite, Dale Park Oak Woodlands
(This race is part of the UK Orienteering League 2022)

Terrain details:  A Middle-distance event in Dale Park Oak Woodlands on the Graythwaite estate.

Wednesday 10 August – to do your own exploring or relaxing!

Day 4: 

Thursday 11 August
Grizedale, Satterthwaite

Terrain details:  A Long-distance event in a deciduous and mixed woodland forest. Visibility may be limited and running speeds will be reduced.

Day 5: 

Friday 12 August
Helsington Barrows, Kendal
(This race is part of the UK Orienteering League 2022)

Terrain details:  Largely open terrain, with a good track network and some small patches of trees/vegetation.

You can Enter online via Fabian4.co.uk

The next closing date for entries is 30 June – and if you get your entries in now you can save money too. It also really helps the planning team.

The final pre-entry closing date will be 24 July.
