Strong winds met the competitors at Cleveland Orienteering Klub's (CLOK’s) Birk Brow (near Guisborough) event on Sunday 1^st November, but clear skies and mild temperature allowed good running conditions. The turnout was decent considering the area is not our finest, but it’s private landowner continued to support us, which made it ideal. We drew entries from many of our neighbouring clubs, as those whose O spikes have grown rusty over lockdown rushed to get a last one in before the tighter restrictions bite. Considerable COVID-secure arrangements were in place, from full pre-entry and timed arrivals in the car park, to social distancing stakes at the start and a download box dangling out of a car window. These procedures worked well and out on the courses, the enjoyment was back to normal as the familiar navigational challenges and tough physical conditions were the only concerns. Special thanks to the Dennis Hooton, planner and map updater, who, together with Controller Ray Barnes, braved the squally conditions at dawn and dusk and to the helpers at the start.
