On Saturday competitors from across England, Scotland, Wales the Ireland came to together to compete in the Individual race in Gortin Forest Park. Although the weather forecast didn’t look great, the day stayed dry, and the forest provided good shelter from a strong wind.
This was the first appearance of the recently updated map of the forest and the planning made good use the best areas, meaning courses were very well received. The NI Orienteering Championships were held afterwards making good use of the same courses.
The weather conditions the next day for the VHI Relay were quite the opposite, a calm, mild but damp morning welcomed competitors to Seskinore Forest.
With scores from the first day being close, it set up some exciting racing.
Again, after the event, there were activities put on for local orienteers, with the controls being used for a score course and training for the Irish Juniors.
So, it was a busy, fun packed weekend of orienteering with the most being made from the great work put in by the officials.
After the two days of competition, congratulations go to Team England who were declared the overall winning team, closely followed by Scotland, with the home team Ireland pipping Wales for third place.
Well done to all the team members who travelled to compete in this years competition, thank you for coming.
A huge thank you to Fermanagh Orienteers for hosting another enjoyable weekend along with others from NI Orienteering who supported in an officiating or volunteering capacity.
