Details

Description:This year we are combining our annual club relays with a BBQ/social and prize-giving for the 2025/26 club league and urban league. Map:  The AA and Adhoc Harris relays will be 1:5,000 single sided and A3 size with a 5m contour interval, updated by Paul Gebbett in 2026.  The junior courses will be on a 1: 2,500 scale with the contours at 5m and will be a single sided A4, map updated by Paul Gebbett in 2024.  All maps will be waterproofed with courses and control locations overprinted.  Newcomers are advised to familiarise themselves with uncrossable features and out of bounds symbols (if in doubt ask helpers before starting).  Control descriptions will be on the map and will be pictorial for the senior classes (A and B) and text for Junior Classes (C and D). There will be no loose control descriptions. Terrain: The area consists of mixed woodland in part on a steep slope (the shorter technical courses avoid the very steepest parts) and many tracks and paths to the north of the road, with semi open intricate quarry workings, surrounded by runnable woodland to the south of the road. The area is generally very runnable, but there are some areas of undergrowth, thick to impassable in places. There is one road dividing the area which, apart from certain marked crossing points (see below) is out of bounds for orienteering. The junior courses will cross the vehicle tracks within the quarry, and we will place a marshall at the entrance to the site to slow the traffic and warn. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Full leg coverings are strongly recommended. The steeper paths can be very slippery after rain. In wet conditions shoes with good grip will be essential on all courses.

Courses

Course description:There will be 4 relay classes for teams of three (Adams-Avery, Ad Hoc, Open Junior and Young Junior). You can also enter as an individual and we will help to fit you into a team where possible, but it may be necessary for some entries to be non-competitive. If at all possible, please organise your team before entering. The Courses for the Junior Relays will be different for fairness and excitement. This means different people on the same colour course may go to slightly different controls (gaffling), so please make sure you follow your map and do not simply try to follow other competitors and check your control codes accordingly. There will also be a one hour score event for those not running in the relays. The Adams Avery Trophy is open to any group of three competitors from a single club with a total points score sum of no more than 24 from the table posted on the BOK website. Road crossings will be marshalled on the day, please respect the Marshalls and follow their instructions and be careful when crossing the road. This is for your safety and that of the cars!
