Parking information:	Assembly is at Shaftesbury Park, Frenchay Park Road, Frenchay, BS16 1LG, which is the home of Dings Crusaders RFC. Entry to the car park will be off Frenchay Park Road at https://what3words.com/liner.deaf.pulled The rugby club has its own car park. There should be plenty of available parking so please park your car thoughtfully and respectfully in one of the available marked bays. In the unlikely event that when you arrive the rugby club car park is full there is additional parking nearby. Turn right on leaving the rugby club, drive 150m south and, at the mini- roundabout junction between Frenchay Park Road and Begbrook Park Road, take the first (north-eastern) turn off into the old hospital grounds. 2m height-restricted parking is available in the Museum car park, taller vehicles can park on hard standing opposite.
Dog rules:	Dogs are welcome and must be controlled. However, please do not bring them onto the rugby club grounds and ensure you clean up after them in the usual manner.

Details

Description:	Part of BOK's Urban Series, with 10 events held most Wednesday evenings from late April to early July. Short, Medium and Long courses available. Best 6 results on each course score for series prizes, with separate male and female competitions. The Short course should be suitable for adult beginners orienteering either as individuals or as part of a group. For this event there will also be a Junior course. Juniors (under 16) can only compete on the Junior course. The Junior course is entirely contained within the grounds of the rugby playing fields and so will not entail interacting with any busy roads. The Junior course, as the name suggests, should be suitable for Juniors, and families, with little or no prior experience of orienteering but a willingness to come along and have a go at the sport. A sense of direction is advisable or failing that, an ability to use a compass. All courses will start in Shaftesbury Park and then Short, Medium and Long head out into Frenchay Village and the surrounding area.

Course description:	Map: An updated map “Frenchay Village & Cleeve Wood” 1:5,000 with 2.5 m contours produced by Chris Johnson, which also includes the Shaftesbury Park playing fields. The map will be waterproof size SRA3 with courses overprinted. Loose control descriptions will also be available. Newcomers are advised to familiarise themselves with uncrossable features and out of bounds (OOB) symbols. If in doubt, you should ask at Assembly. https://www.maprunner.co.uk/map-symbols/ The club has asked us NOT to run in front of the grandstand, and across three of the pitches which will likely be in use that evening. Please respect their wishes. These will be marked out of bounds for the event and take an appropriate route around the pitches. Juniors should be notified of this request. There also will be some uncrossable walls and features in Frenchay village, please respect the area and study the map carefully. Terrain: Urban footpaths, residential streets, parkland, playing fields, riverside woods and other grassy areas. Road shoes with good grips (but not spikes), running shorts and vests should be suitable. After heavy rain some of the routes may become muddy so please bear this in mind. There are also some steep steps in places to enter the gorge please take care in wet weather as they could be slippery. Some paths next to the River Frome will have high banks and could be slippy please take extra care in these areas. Participants must take extra care on the longer courses when running on roads where there is limited to no pavement, and not take undue risks when crossing roads, particularly on blind corners or busy roads (marked in darker brown on the map). Some courses will share pavements with Bike Lanes, please keep to the pedestrian parts of the pavement and beware of fast travelling bikes on a busy commuter route. Recent heavy rain can make some routes muddy and slippery; in places, footpaths run close to steep river banks, take appropriate care. In addition, there will be a timed out (1 minute) crossing to get you across the pedestrian crossing outside of the rugby club grounds. Some roads will be particularly busy at rush hour please be careful when crossing roads and be vigilant at all times. Some courses will share pavements with Bike Lanes, please keep to the pedestrian parts of the pavement and beware of fast travelling bikes on a busy commuter route.
