Junior European Cup Long

It was a cold and early start for the juniors representing GBR at the Junior European Cup this morning. The long event took place at Huneburg in the Harz mountain range at approximately 500m altitude. After two days living and running in the clouds, the athletes awoke to clear skies but a biting wind and low temperatures.

The GBR athletes performed well and with determination on courses that were physical with times much longer than anticipated.

The GBR M18s finished within 8 minutes and 25 seconds of each other and between 20th (Alex Carcas) and 36th (Tim Morgan). As each finished they spoke of the physical challenge that included one particularly long leg.

The GBR 20s were even closer with Joe Woodley (39th) and Andrew Barr (40th), who is running up an age group, just nine seconds apart.

The W18s were led home again by Cecilie Andersen who finished in 24th with Fay Walsh running a solid race for 37th. Jenny Ricketts expressed her frustration as she described how she ran from the 5th control to the 7th, then the 6th and back to the 7th and Pippa Dakin was equally frustrated after a big mistake early on. Jenny and Pippa finished 40th and 43rd respectively.
