Junior European Cup Relay

Today the 2015 Junior European Cup concluded with the relays and some very good legs run for Great Britain.

Four British athletes went out on leg 1 with two GBR men's teams, one mixed men's GBR/ Lithuania team, one women's GBR team and one mixed women's GBR/Estonia.

The start line included Alex Carcas for Men GBR 1, Daniel Stansfield for Men GBR 2, Cecilie Andersen for Women GBR and Tim Morgan for the men's mixed GBR/Lithuania team.

The courses involved a big 15 - 20 minute loop before coming into the spectator control and then a shorter 5 - 6 minute loop.

Alex Carcas and Daniel Stansfield both achieved their target of coming back in the pack and Ceclilie Andersen also ran a strong race, leading the chasing pack back. Tim Morgan also ran a brave race after twisting his ankle early on but continuing to pass on to Rokas Lipnickas in the mixed team.

Afterwards, Alex commented on the race, "It was good fun - really fast and physical with a huge hill where it was make or break. I made a mistake early on but caught the others back on that hill! I hit the top and then gritted my teeth and pushed on. I was hurting but so was everyone else!"

The second legs were run by Tam Wilson (GBR 1), Andrew Barr (GBR 2) and Jenny Ricketts (GBR). It wasn't Tam's day and an early mistake cost him dearly but both Andrew and Jenny put in solid performances.

All of Great Britain's third leg runners ran strongly. Aidan Rigby went out first for GBR 2 and enjoyed keeping Florian Attinger (SUI) company. Aidan ran with confidence and commented that he felt better than he had the day before. Harrison McCartney was next out for GBR 1 and also ran a good race. Fay Walsh and Pippa Dakin then went out very close together - Fay for GBR and Pippa for the mixed GBR/Estonia team -  with Pippa just getting the edge on Fay towards the end of the leg.

Full results can be found here. NB Joe Woodley had to be withdrawn due to a knee injury sustained in the long event and so Tam Wilson is listed as Joe Woodley and Tim Morgan is listed as Tam Wilson.
