JK 2016 Festival of Orienteering 2016

The JK 2016 Festival of Orienteering was well received and the weather challenged many of the competitors.  The event was a great opportunity to catch up with friends and family.

The event was hosted by British Orienteering in conjunction with the Yorkshire and Humberside Orienteering Association.

The first day of the four-day event started on Good Friday at Leeds University with the Sprint race in a classic urban campus setting.

On the second day, Saturday 26 March, the event headed to Wass Forest positioned on the western edge of the North York Moors National Park with stunning scenery.

The event then moved on the third day, Sunday (27 March 2016) to Kilnsey set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park for the Long distance race.  With its fast and very runnable Yorkshire limestone moorland the arena provided views of the stunning scenery of Upper Wharfedale.

On the last day on Easter Monday (28 March 2016) the event headed to Storthes Hall for the event’s final Relay race.  The area provided competitors with an interesting mix of terrain including fast runnable forest, open areas, university campus and some surprising contour detail. The arena again provided good views and great opportunities for seeing parts of the races.

Results for all days are now available on here.

TrailO results are up, together with solutions.

Both of the individual days' races were part of the UK Orienteering League.

Congratulations to everyone who competed, the winners and thanks especially to the JK organising clubs and officials.
