The training begins for JWOC 2017

Members of the British Orienteering Talent Squad will spend the next week in Tampere, Finland to familiarise themselves with the terrain and mapping as they begin their training towards JWOC 2017.

The group (listed below) arrived on Saturday and had their first day's training yesterday where they put in two sessions that saw them working with middle maps and the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the conditions underfoot and map detail that they may expect next year at JWOC.

Mark Nixon, GB technical coach, gathered the athletes together on the first morning with the simple message: "For the next 12 months your orienteering is all about three things - 1) training for JWOC; 2) getting selected for JWOC; 3) competing at JWOC. This is where the training begins."

Alistair Masson is pictured training yesterday afternoon as he gets to grips with the Finnish terrain and map.
