World Trail Orienteering Championships 2017

The World Trail Orienteering Championships 2017 will be held in Birštonas, Lithuania.

The competitions will be held in various places. Birštonas is a balneological resort and a spa town in Lithuania, situated on the right bank of the Nemunas River. Birštonas is a place of tranquillity, but it is in close distance of the major Lithuania towns Vilnius and Kaunas, with many attractions and interesting places with rich history.

The Great Britain TrailO team selected to compete in the World Trail Orienteering Championships 2017 are:

PreO Open Class
Charles Bromley Gardner (British Army Orienteering Club)
Ian Ditchfield (Mole Valley Orienteering Club)
John Kewley (Manchester and District Orienteering Club)

PreO Paralympic class
Dick Keighley (Wimborne Orienteers)
(Peter Roberts EBOR has recently had to withdraw)

TempO
For the TempO class, the three Open class athletes will be joined by Tom Dobra (University of Bristol Orienteering Club) and the three competitors for the Open Relay team will be chosen from amongst those four athletes.

The Great Britain team flies out to Kaunas, Lithuania next Friday on the 7 July and will then drive to Daugavpils in Latvia to compete in TempO and PreO competitions over the weekend of Friday 7 – Sunday 9 July 2017 which form the third round of the unofficial European TrailO Cup, as well as being a useful warm-up before the World Trail Orienteering Championships.

After the event on Sunday, the Great Britain team then travel back to Lithuania for the World TrailO Championships 2017, to be held in Birstonas, Lithuania between Monday 10 July – Saturday 15 July 2017.

The World Trail Orienteering Championships Event Programme is scheduled as follows:

Monday 10 July TempO Model Event and Opening Ceremony
Tuesday 11 July TempO Qualifier (am), TempO Final (pm)
Wednesday 12 July PreO Model Event
Thursday 13 July PreO 1
Friday 14 July Relay
Saturday 15 July PreO 2 followed by the Awards Ceremony and the Banquet.
