Youth Away Days were great fun for all

Over 18 young people attended and enjoyed Youth Away Days at Sayers Croft Outdoor Learning Centre in Cranleigh and White Hall Outdoor Education Centre in Buxton.

These Youth Away Days took place during the school autumn half-term weeks and proved to be a great day for those who attended. The two days based at Sayers Croft and White Hall Outdoor Centres were a mixture of quality orienteering run by Josh Jenner in the south and John Kewley in the north. The young people enjoyed the fun planned coaching sessions run by the coaches on the day.

The adventure activities and team building experience provided by the staff at both the centres was a real treat for the young people and really complimented the orienteering skills they learnt on the day.

The young people also took part in some focus group work on how they think British Orienteering could improve the sport and these were lively sessions led by the young people but supported by Development Officers Phil Conway in the south and Peter Brooke and Dan Riley in the north.

So much to do!
Stop moving

Further details on the young people’s views will be made available over the next few months as British Orienteering explores some of their thoughts and ideas further.

England Development Officer Tim Herod who organised the events said: “I would like to thank the young people for their enthusiasm on the day and hard work they put into the different sessions, and of course their parents for bringing them to the days.”
