BNC Weekend National Event (UKOL) and Welsh League 2018

Sunday 25 February 2018

Organiser (National) - Allan Lasky (Swansea Bay Orienteering Club), says:

"On a crisp Sunday morning, Pembrey hosted day two of the BNC weekend, which also forms part of the UK Orienteering League (UKOL). Some competitors doubling on both events were putting on their gear a mere 12 hours after the previous nights’ excursions. The course made use of three distinct areas the country park, the Burrows and Pembrey forest providing an all-round challenge. Many competitors were pleased to be back in the area and were reminiscing about previous events held there in the past. Just short of 300 runners started and most completed making the most of the mainly flat course, which resulted in some fast times including a sub 54 minute run on the Black course. It was good to see so many of the 2017 UKOL champions aiming to repeat their success.

The sky was cloudless all day with a slight nip in the air which allowed for perfect running but no-one was in a hurry to leave as they spent time with friends reminiscing, commiserating and possibly bragging about route choices. Well done to Steve Quinton (Swansea Bay Orienteering Club) for planning and also to the volunteers for their friendly enthusiasm."

British Orienteering would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all who took part and say thank you to the organisers and all club volunteers for their time and commitment involved in putting on a great weekend of night orienteering for many to enjoy.
