Juniors battled it out at The Yvette Baker Trophy Final yesterday!

The Yvette Baker Trophy is the premier junior inter-club competition for English and Welsh Orienteering Clubs and all the qualifiying junior teams made their way in the heat to The Yvette Baker Trophy Final yesterday (Sunday 1 July 2018).

The Yvette Baker Trophy is named after Britain’s first World Champion, Yvette Baker, who won Gold in the short distance in the World Orienteering Championships held in Scotland in 1999.

Junior teams qualified to compete in the Final were:  Bristol Orienteering Klub (BOK), Cleveland Orienteering Klub (CLOK), Derwent Valley Orienteers (DVO), Guildford Orienteers (GO), Humberside and Lincoln Orienteers (HALO), Leicestershire Orienteering Club (LEI), Octavian Droobers (OD), Southern Navigators (SN), Suffolk Orienteering Club (SUFFOC), South Yorkshire Orienteers (SYO), West Cumberland Orienteering Club (WCOC).

The 2018 Yvette Baker Trophy Final took place in the sweltering heat in Arrow Valley Country Park, Redditch and was hosted by Harlequin Orienteering Club (HOC).

The Country Park was undulating but the slopes were generally gentle. There was a mixture of mainly deciduous woodland and more open land crossed by paths. However, despite recent dry weather some paths under trees were still muddy!

All the children who took part enjoyed it.
