Congratulations on your selection to compete for GBR at the 2018 World Orienteering Championships.

Who was the first person you told the news to about being selected for the World Orienteering Championships?
MC-D:  "Ben Mitchell (I was also chuffed to hear of his selection for World Uni’s!)."

What made you choose orienteering over any of the other available sports?
MC-D:  "I did a lot of different sports as a kid but I guess all the fun trips with the Welsh Junior Squad and also Lagganlia (camp for M/W14s) got me more excited for orienteering."

Where is your favourite place to orienteer?
MC-D:  "In Britain, probably the sand dunes on the Gower - I love racing the local events there as the dunes are technical but you can run fast and take lots of risks which I find really fun! Elsewhere, I love any gorgeous forests, especially South West Finland where there’s lots of bare rock."

What is your favourite training session?
MC-D:  "It has to be “trains” or “sprintervals” (depending on whether you’re in forest or urban). These are short orienteering intervals where you and your friends have a small start interval (like 15s) and race for a few controls at a time."

How are you preparing for the World Championships in August?
MC-D:  "I’ve spent most of the year training physically while at University and since then I have mostly been focussing on orienteering regularly and making sure I do some high-quality races. I also spent some time in Latvia with some teammates recently to prepare for the forest races specifically."

Who or what will be your biggest threat?
MC-D:  "Probably all the cafés with cakes for just 50cents"  ;)

Thank you, Megan. Congratulations again on being selected to compete in the World Orienteering Championships.

We wish you all the best with the rest of your preparation!
