The Scottish Orienteering League event was enjoyed by all

The Compass Point Scottish Orienteering League event at Birsemore, Aboyne on Sunday (24 February) was another unseasonably warm day which made the long walk to the start much more enjoyable!

With over 500 entries (just under 100 on the Blue course), the organisers and volunteers had their work cut out to park everyone and get the starts on schedule but happy to report that all went fairly smoothly!

Course planner Andy Oliver had twisted his ankle on the Friday before the event but heroically persevered to get the controls out with help from Controller Trever Hoey.  The courses were by all accounts fairly technical and many commented on how much they enjoyed the runnable section of the forest in particular.

We were fortunate to have the Deeside Community Centre as an Event base which provided plenty space for the presentation of the 2018 Compass Point SOL League winner’s trophies organised by Sally Lindsay, the Maroc/Gramp World Schools team selling delicious soup, refreshments and raffle tickets to raise funds for their forthcoming trip to Estonia and the Scottish Junior Orienteering Squad  fundraising with tasty homebakes.  This led to a cheerful, relaxed atmosphere with orienteers making the most of the opportunity to hang around, discuss their courses and socialise after the winter break.

British Orienteering would like to thank all the club volunteers from MAROC for all their hard work in putting on such a fantastic event.
