Scottish Spring takes place on 13th - 14th April 2019

Masterplan Adventure with support from the Scottish Junior Orienteering Squad (ScotJOS) and the Scottish Elite Development Squad (SEDS) invite you to the Scottish Spring in the Kingdom of Fife.

Three fantastic events – Middle, Sprint and Long - using some brand new maps and areas.  All three events are part of the UK Elite Orienteering League.

The weekend kicks off with a Middle Distance event at Tentsmuir South, in North East Fife. This is an area of complex forested sand dunes close to the shore with less distinct contours inland but some significant vegetation changes.

The second event is a Sprint in the Royal Burgh of Falkland, a historic village in the Howe of Fife. This is a brand new map in a new area for orienteering, and the race is part of the UK Elite Orienteering League and the bto Scottish Urban Orienteering League.

The race will include the grounds and gardens of Falkland Palace which dominates the centre of this village. The Palace was originally designed for King James IV as a ‘pleasure palace’ for his beloved country pursuits of falconry and hunting. However, its tranquil grounds with formal gardens, ancient orchards, wildflower meadows and royal tennis court, provide plenty of interest for orienteering as well.   Junior courses will remain within the Palace grounds with the other courses venturing into the cobbled streets of the village. The Palace was a favourite place of Mary Queen of Scots – will it be a favourite place for orienteering too?

The final race of the weekend is a Long distance event on Falkland Estate as part of the UK Elite Orienteering League and the CompassPoint Scottish Orienteering League.  Falkland Estate lies on the west side of the village which is snuggled under the Lomond Hills – so expect some climb! The area is predominantly new to orienteering and contains a diverse mixture of terrain with forest and open hillside and some intricate areas.

The proceeds of these events will go towards Junior and Elite activities for Scottish teams and athletes, who will be out in force helping to make this weekend possible. So come along – enjoy orienteering in historic areas and meet the current and future stars of Scottish Orienteering.

Full details are available at Scottish Spring and entries are open at Fabian4.
