British Orienteering Welcomes New Chair

British Orienteering has welcomed Drew Vanbeck as its new Chair. Drew was appointed Chair at the recent Annual General Meeting on Friday 19 April 2019.

Drew is a current member of South Midlands Orienteering Club and will take up his new position with immediate effect.

Professionally, Drew comes with a wealth of experience and has a technology background having enjoyed a career as a Managing Director in a consulting company.  He has shaped and executed large transformation programmes for 20+ years and is now ready for a new challenge.  As Chair of British Orienteering, he looks forward to drawing on his professional background to build on those things that are so good about the sport and help British Orienteering prepare for the future.

Drew Vanbeck, says: “I’m delighted to be British Orienteering’s new Chair.  I first learnt to use a map and compass at school around 40 years ago.  I orienteered as an army cadet, ran cross-country and took part in events such as Ten Tors on Dartmoor and the KIMM now known as OMM.  More recently my orienteering has been biased towards local and urban events.  I’m an enthusiastic participant rather than a serious competitor.  I look forward to taking up my new role.”

British Orienteering would like to take this opportunity to thank Judith Holt (Derwent Valley Orienteers) for her hard work and commitment.  The previous, Chair Judith Holt, will remain on the Board as a Director for the final year of her final term.

Scott Collier was proposed and approved as Vice Chair.  Both Drew and Scott will take up their roles with immediate effect.
