Athletes selected for JWOC and EYOC prepare to head to Denmark

This weekend sees the athletes selected for Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) and European Youth Orienteering Championships (EYOC) heading across to Aarhus, Denmark, to take part in the Danish junior test races happening in the Aarhus and Silkeborg areas.

This Pre-EYOC/JWOC camp will focus on finalising preparations for both competitions taking place in a few weeks time, with EYOC running from June 28-30 in Grodno, Belarus and JWOC being held in Silkeborg between 7-12 July. The three test races include a sprint in Marienlystparken, Aarhus on Saturday, a long in Himmelbjerget on Sunday and a middle in the same forest on Monday, before the team fly back later that day. The terrain has been described by the planning team as follows: "The sprint event is in the north-west part of Aarhus. It consists of apartment blocks, a shopping area and a park with a small golf course. Himmelbjerget is medium to very hilly, with mixed vegetation."

There will also be time for group review sessions around these races, which will allow the athletes to reflect on their experiences, analyse their performances and compare notes from their initial reconnaissance camp there last July, along with giving the EYOC athletes a focussed opportunity to examine the challenges that the Grodno region will present to them. It should be interesting to see if this camp throws up anything new for the JWOC athletes to take on board! We wish the athletes and coaching team all the best for this weekend.
