SELOC secure investment for new project

South East Lancashire Orienteering Club (SELOC) have successfully secured £1000 towards a new project in association with Ambition for Ageing and Age UK.

The Ambition for Ageing project in Bolton has seen a number of projects receive funding to get people 55 and over, active in different ways.

SELOC’s project will see a series of orienteering activities taking place within different areas of Bolton in order to get people 55 and over, active. Aimed at the complete novice to the sport, the activities will introduce people to orienteering in a relaxed and fun way. There will be different skill levels of activity each week designed to meet the individual needs and give people a taste of traditional club orienteering.

A key focus of all the projects is the social part, with this activity, in particular, providing the perfect opportunity to meet other people and enjoy getting outdoors together. The aim is for those 55+ to take part but they can do this as an individual, with friends or with their family, so bringing their grandkids in highly recommended.

Development Officer Peter Brooke, said: “This is a great project to be involved with and the SELOC committee have worked hard putting the application and presentation together to secure this investment. The hard work starts now to deliver excellent experiences and show what orienteering is.

Not only will SELOC be playing an important part in the Ambition for Ageing Bolton project, but it’s also hoped that this activity could provide the springboard for new people to get involved in the longer term and ultimately join SELOC.

Projects like these are vital to the local community and excellent for raising the awareness of our clubs and sport. I’d recommend looking into local investment pots as one way to help support club activity and highlight the benefits of your club.”
