Sprint Final with GB Kris Jones - and only two seconds in it!

Press Release by Severin Furter, EGK OL-Weltcup 2019

Yannick Michiels secured his second World Cup win ever in the men’s race. On the 4-kilometer-long course, the fast sprint specialist from Belgium delivered a neck-and-neck race with runner-up Kristian Jones from Great Britain.  Finally, in the finish only two seconds separated Jones from the Belgian. The Swiss Matthias Kyburz came in third.

The Swede Tove Alexandersson was also winning the sprint, thus the third race of the EGK Orienteering World Cup in Laufen. On the men’s side, the Belgian Yannick Michiels was the fastest.

She is the dominator of the current season: Tove Alexandersson. The 27-year old Swede could decide all seven World Cup races of the current season in her favour, including today’s sprint in Basel Land. She was leading from the beginning of the 3.6-kilometre-long race in the alleyways of Laufen. In the finish, she was 16 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Elena Roos came in second and Simona Aebersold third, thus capturing their places on the podium.
