Day 1: Volunteers' Week (1-7 June 2021): Thank You Video

British Orienteering have been working with Sport England and Club Matters on a brand-new video to recognise the amazing efforts of volunteers across grassroots sport and physical activity during the pandemic.

This past year has seen so many volunteers step up to support their clubs and groups, their community and each other, and this video is an exciting way to share our appreciation and say thanks.

The video is fronted by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE, who delivers a collective message of thanks for everything that volunteers have been doing over the last year within sport. We hope this video will help to remind people across orienteering why they volunteer, show them how much their efforts are appreciated and say THANK YOU for all that they do within our sport of orienteering.

Baroness Grey-Thompson DBE is joined in sharing a “heartfelt thank you” by participants from across different sports including members from British Orienteering who have shared photos of themselves with signs to thank volunteers.

Two of the photos submitted by British Orienteering can be seen below and are from Peter Molloy (GB Talent Squad and member of FVO) and James Bailey (GB Talent Squad and member of BOK).  Can you spot them on the photo board when watching the film?  Can you also spot some other club members submitted by British Orienteering?

Within the film there are also personal messages from a few participants from other organisations and sports, thanking volunteers for keeping them connected and giving them something to return back to.

The video is available and can be watched here

How you can get involved with Volunteers' Week?

Each day of Volunteers’ Week 2021 will focus on a different theme of volunteering to ensure we recognise the impact that different types of volunteering have played in our sport across the UK in the last 12 months. Each day is a chance to take the time to say thank you to volunteers across the UK.

Share your own story about volunteering during a pandemic over the past 12 months, inspire others to get involved in volunteering, or say thank you to an amazing volunteer you know using #VolunteersWeek! Don't forget to include British Orienteering in all of your posts:
