After a delayed start, the UK Orienteering League is now well underway

After a delayed start to the season, the UK Orienteering League is well underway. The first two races were at the British Middle Distance Championships / Northern Championships weekend in the Lake District in June. These have been followed by races held as part of the Scottish 6-Days event in Fort William in the first week in August.

Because the Scottish 6-days has been split into two 3-day competitions (due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions) there has been a slight change to the UKOL race schedule. Originally all runners would have had a chance to compete in UKOL races on days 2 and 3 of the six days. Now that most runners will only participate either in day 2 (as part of Event A) or day 3 (as part of Event B), an extra UKOL race has been put into the schedule. Days 4 and 5 both at Creag Dubh (which feature the same courses to be run by half the competitors on one day and half on the other) will be a single UKOL race, taking the times from the two days combined. Consequently, most people will still have the chance to obtain two UKOL scores from their week of racing in Scotland.

Looking further ahead, the British Sprint Distance Championships (hosted by NWOA on 22 August) will be the next UKOL race, followed by the Caddihoe Chase (hosted by Wimbourne) in September.

Martin Ward, UKOL Coordinator, commented: "Thanks to the clubs that have hosted major events in the last couple of months, which has allowed us to get the delayed 2021 UKOL race season off to a great start".
