Great Britain has pulled out of this year’s Junior World Orienteering Championships (JWOC) in Turkey because of the COVID-19 pandemic

JWOC is due to take place in the Metropolitan Municipality of Kocaeli, Turkey between 4 and 11 September 2021.

Turkey is on the United Kingdom Government’s list of "red countries" which they warn are at the highest risk from COVID, and should not be visited "except in the most extreme of circumstances."

This decision has been reached for a number of reasons including UK Government guidance not to travel to red list countries, the associated risks with COVID-19 variants, the significant cost and time required in quarantine on return to the UK, but most importantly the wellbeing of our athletes, coaches and support team.

We know that this news will be extremely disappointing to those athletes, parents and the support team involved, as well as to all at British Orienteering.
