British Orienteering Annual Awards 2022 – don’t hesitate – Nominate!

It is great to see nominations for our annual awards coming in and reading about the great work clubs and individuals are going on in our sport.

The deadline for entries is Sunday 6 March 2022, so still plenty of time for you to nominate your club or an individual who you know deserves a bit of recognition for the great work they are doing.

This year British Orienteering has eleven different awards on offer.

We are excited to announce two new categories:

Firstly the ‘Continued Contribution to Orienteering Award’ - This is perfect for that diligent, hardworking volunteer, possibly a long-standing committee member who does so much valuable background work – you know who I am talking about, shine a light on the fantastic work they have been doing over the years, they deserve a nomination.

The second new award is for ‘Development & Innovation’ - This award is perfect for an individual, group, or a smaller club that may not have all the resources but are resourceful in developing orienteering. Especially over the last couple of challenging years, we know that there are people and clubs with great ideas and who have put new things in place to keep an Orienteering programme going and develop things even further, celebrate their efforts through a nomination.

This year nominating is easier than ever, there is a simple online nomination form to complete.

Everyone who nominates will get a fun British Orienteering branded keyring and all who are nominated will get a British Orienteering pin badge to wear with pride.

Have a look now at all the awards available.  Don’t hesitate – Nominate!

Mapping Awards

  • Traditionally, the three annual cartographic mapping awards, Chichester, Silva, and Walsh Trophies, would be awarded for maps first used in the previous year.  The Coronavirus epidemic has severely limited the number of events held in 2020 and 2021.  Consequently, the Map Advisory Group has agreed to invite nominations in 2022 for maps first used in the two years between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2021.

  • The Bonington Trophy is for contributions to mapping which may have been made over an extended period of time.
