GB Successes at European TrailO Championships 2022, Finland

The 2022 European TrailO Championships took place over the weekend in Finland.

Great Britain’s first top 10 place was won by Graham Urquhart (Octavian Drobbers Orienteering Club) who came 9th in the P (Physically Challenged) class in the first PreO event on Thursday, taking the title in that class was Spain’s Alejandro Aguilar Lara.  The Spaniard convincingly won both days, which was a superb result for someone who was relatively new to TrailO.  Sweden’s Michael Johansson took silver and bronze went to Vladyslav Vovk, Ukraine.

Saturday saw the TempO day with John Kewley of Manchester and District Orienteering Club making it through the morning’s qualifications to compete in the final, unfortunately having to face a horrendous down pour. The final was situated near Espoo, just outside Helsinki, it was village terrain with many different types of ground, including parkland, play areas and areas with buildings.

John went on to finish in 35th place with Petteri Hakala (Fin) taking a clear victory.

Sunday was the last day of competition, with the competition concluding with the final, producing victory for the Ukraine in the P class and Finland the O class.

The teams of three competed in quite a hilly and rocky terrain with a lot of contour detail close to a larger recreational area.
