Parking information: | Roseberry Topping and Newton Woods are adjacent to the A173 between Great Ayton and Guisborough. IMPORTANT NOTE: The event parking will be at Aireyholme Farm and there will be no access from Newton-under-Roseberry. The event will be signed from Great Ayton High Street. At the end of High Street (a short distance east of the Royal Oak Hotel), turn south along Station Road, following signs for the railway station. At the roundabout, turn left along Station Road. Pass the station and take the next left to Aireyholme Farm. At the farm building, proceed through the farmyard into the parking field at grid reference NZ 576116. Click on the link to see a map. You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event. You can also get directions if you specify your starting location. There will be a £1 per car parking charge. Assembly / Registration will be in the same field as parking. The Start will be 1.1 km uphill (80m climb) from Registration. Allow 20 minutes. |
Dog rules: | Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome at this event, and can be taken out into the competition area. |
Description: | Terrain: Sloping mixed woodland and open moorland on the sides of Roseberry Topping. There is significant bracken growth on the moorland. Notes: The courses cross the main path up to Roseberry Topping, and dogs and mountain bikers are likely to be using this path. Parents of young Juniors should consider shadowing in this area. Full leg cover is required. (There are bracken and brambles in the competition area.) This event involves going out on to open moorland in mid-November. If there is inclement weather then waterproof jackets may be compulsory. Please bring a suitable jacket to the event and look out for notices in the Assembly Area. The maps for the Light Green to Brown courses will include a large scale map insert. This will be at a scale of 1:3,000 with 2.5m contours. Remember to use the large scale map insert when your course goes into the relevant ares. The control descriptions will be printed on the maps, and separate loose copies will be available at Registration. Facilities: Toilet in the Assembly Area. No drinks will be provided. Please bring your own. |
