Junior European Cup Sprint

Twelve juniors, in the M/W18 and M20 classes, have travelled over to Bad Hazburg in Germany for the Junior European Cup (JEC) that takes place this weekend. The sprint race took place this afternoon and there were good results for Great Britain.

Cecilie Andersen achieved the highest place, on her debut for Great Britain, finishing 9th in the W18 competition. The race started at 2pm, giving the team the opportunity to look at the model area in the morning. After the race, Cecilie commented: "I was really excited for this event but that turned into nervousness by the time the start came around! I started fast and then, pretty much, maintained it and was pleased with my route choices, apart from one where Jenny (Ricketts) went through the woods and I went around. I think her route was faster as she told me that she was hesitant, although we got the same split."

The M18 race saw GBR take two top positions with Harrison McCartney in 10th and Tim Morgan in 11th.

Afterwards, Harrison said, "It was a fast course and generally there were just two route choices. I enjoyed it, with a variety of small picks in the park area and then some fast, almost urban running. My middle section was good; I was running cleanly and planning ahead, keeping flow. I knew I had the potential to do well and I did what I expected"

Tim Morgan (pictured) said that he hadn't felt so confident commenting: "I wasn't particularly confident that I would get near to a top ten position and I felt pretty average. I also had the odd hesitation but I kept it together fairly well and pushed hard. I liked it - it was good fun! I hope to do the same again tomorrow!"
